SEO Bad Practices To Avoid

Advertisements Above the Fold Region

Too many advertisements in the top half of the website page is also a practice that is not seen with friendly eyes by the search engines. No more than one advertisement should be seen ‘above the fold region’. Also, do not add pop-up or interstitial ads. Once your website grows in popularity or ranking, other companies will inquire about placing a follow link to their website or post. This is the equivalent of paid links, which is also frowned upon. Basically, stay away from buying or selling paid links. Don’t say we did not warn you.

Link Spam

This practice involves submitting your links to multiple numbers of forums, blogs or other websites without really knowing the quality of those websites, which in turn could be sending their links to other spammy websites. Usually, this is done by using software which automates the process. Instead of building your website authority, these backlinks will reduce your ranking. You will be penalized by the search engines. Again, we warned you.

We’ll there you have it. Hopefully you get the point. It takes hard work and dedication to get a decent ranking by any of the search engines. Do not think for a moment that you are out-smarting Google or Bing, or MSN for that matter. It’s not going to work and you will get penalized.
